August 29, 2020

The Center for Justice joined the Mayor's Office Young Men's Initiative, Life Camp, Save Our Streets and many others for a march toward community safety and to empower youth to explore alternatives to violence.

On Saturday August 29, Center for Justice staff from our Justice Ambassadors Youth Council, Justice-In-Education Initiative, and The Confined Arts joined other community organizations to march for an end to gun violence and for more community accountability and alternatives to violence for youth.

A recent rise in gun violence throughout NYC resulting in a number of people losing their lives or being injured prompted the peaceful demonstration and calls for policy and community change. The slogan was "We march because our lives depend on it."

Advocates march throughout the Bronx

The March began on Webster Avenue in the Bronx and ended with a speak out and rally in front of Bronx Care. Speakers included New York State legislators, Manhattan DA Candidates, community organizers, and activists.

Jarrell Daniels speaks into megaphone at rally

Gun violence is more than what is considered 'black on black crime' — our society has sought to convince us that urban street violence is the most serious threat to public safety… yet the reality is that racism and ideals of white supremacy that upheld generations of social inequality is the greatest threat to public well-being.
